Highfleet takes place in a setting that has been described by some as “diesel-punk”. The game would make it clear early on that large ships are not easy to control. Unfortunately, Highfleet, developed by Konstantin Kashutin, is such a case. Not every game developer could keep both in mind. Yet, having the brilliance to have novel designs while being aware of the need to have reliable tried-and-true designs are two different things.
Yet, the game must hold their attention by being friendly to beginners and gradually training them to be better at playing the game through the use of established methods, like having good in-game documentation. Such a game would have turned quite a lot of heads. The result is a game that looks and plays strikingly different from others. Sometimes, a game developer can have a stroke of brilliance and serendipitous collaboration with similarly talented people.
